Ronaldo leapfrogs Messi in Forbes list of top-earning football players

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has recovered best position in the rundown of the world’s most generously compensated football players from Lionel Messi, as indicated by Forbes.

Ronaldo, 36, rejoined United from Juventus in August following 12 years away, while Messi has traded childhood club Barcelona to join Paris St Germain.

Forbes said Ronaldo, among the world’s most famous competitors with more than 500 million adherents across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, is set to make $125m before charges in the 2021-22 season, with $70m coming from pay and rewards at United.

The rest will come from supports and organizations with brands including Nike, Herbalife, Clear and his CR7 image.

Messi, who beat last year’s rundown, will be paid a compensation of $75m with an extra $35m from supports for absolute expected profit of $110m.

Another PSG player, Kylian Mbappe ($43m), is fourth on the Forbes list while Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah ($41m) is fifth.
